Which Paris train station for your destination? A chauffeur's guide

Paris does not have one central train station but several, and each one serves a different part of France and Europe. Going to the wrong one is an easy mistake, and a costly one when your train is about to leave. This is a general guide from a chauffeur service that takes guests to the stations. Always confirm the station on your own ticket.
Gare du Nord
This is the station for the Eurostar to London and for many services to northern France and northern Europe. If you are travelling to the United Kingdom, Belgium or the Netherlands, this is probably your station. Eurostar passengers go through border and security checks, so allow extra time.
Gare de Lyon
Gare de Lyon serves the south-east of France and the lines towards Italy. If your trip takes you to Lyon, Provence or the Riviera, or onwards to Italy, look for this station on your ticket.
Gare Montparnasse
Trains from Montparnasse go to Brittany and to the south-west of France. If you are headed to the Atlantic coast or the west of the country, this is likely to be your station.
Gare de l'Est
Gare de l'Est is the station for eastern France and for services to Germany. Guests going to Champagne, Alsace or across the border to Germany will usually leave from here.
Gare Saint-Lazare
Saint-Lazare serves Normandy. For day trips or longer stays on the Normandy coast, this is the station to look for.
Other stations
Paris has a few other stations, and some regions are served by more than one. This guide is general, so the name printed on your ticket always comes first. If you are unsure, check before you leave your hotel.
Tips for getting to the station
- Check the station name on your ticket the day before, and again before you leave.
- Allow extra time. Stations are large and busy, and you may have to find your platform, show your ticket or go through checks.
- Think about your luggage. Stations can involve stairs, long walks and crowds. A chauffeur drops you as close to the entrance as is allowed and helps with your bags.
- Plan the arrival too. If you arrive by train, we can meet you at the station and take you to your hotel.
- Coming from an airport? Many guests go from CDG or Orly straight to a station. Tell us your flight number and your train time and we will plan the margin with you.
